Magneton Coronado – NDTBLR
When Basel-based guitarist Andy Tobler commissioned us to build a Custom Shop guitar, he did so with the intention that it would be the “last” guitar he’d ever buy… well, nice try, since we all know that that's one hell of an illusion... But the goal of creating the ultimate guitar was set!
The shape was clear: it was to be a 335-style six-string, but with more of a Gretsch vibe, and yes, a Coronado was an option, but only if it had a sustain block… no sooner said than done: We selected the most beautiful original 1967 Fender Coronado body from our vault (oh yes, we have some left!) opened it up, and fitted it with a sustain block made from 50-year-old Honduran mahogany, then completely refinished the body in Bahamas Green Sparkle with nitrocellulose lacquer and, of course, equipped it with the very best components (Lindy Fralin “Fralintron” pickups, roasted neck, stainless steel frets, Hipshot tuners, etc.).
