Magneton Telenovela – Bergün Swiss Stone Pine

This is made possible by an extraordinary material: Swiss Stone Pine, a rare alpine conifer from the mountain valley of Bergün in Graubünden. The Bergün pine (also known as “stone pine”, ger. "Arve"/"Zirbenkiefer"), often called the “Queen of the Alps,” grows at altitudes above 1,600 meters and withstands even the harshest conditions down to –40 °C. Its wood is not only exceptionally light and stable, but also possesses a unique resonance capability. Slow-grown, with a fragrance that enchanted luthier Andy Hidber the very first time he cut into the wood.
 
The wood itself remains invisible – a deliberate choice. The wild, knot-rich grain could not be reconciled with the refined tortoise binding and the instrument’s high-end aesthetic. So it was finished in high-gloss black (in nitro – of course!), consequently, like a Steinway grand piano. The wood disappears. Its essence, however, remains tangible. A one-of-a-kind piece.
